Nominations for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards were announced Monday morning and Carnegie Mellon University alumnus Ted Danson is not only nominated as Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy for his work in the new Netflix series “A Man on the Inside,” he will also be honored with the Carol Burnett Award.

Danson, who graduated from the School of Drama(opens in new window) in 1972 and received an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree in 2018, has had a prolific career in television, starring in shows such as “Cheers,” “Becker” and “The Good Place.” Equivalent to its film accolade counterpart, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the Carol Burnett Award has been presented annually since 2019 to an honoree who has made outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen. Recipients are chosen based on their body of work and the lasting impact that their television career achievements have had on both the industry and audiences.

His nomination for “A Man on the Inside” marks his thirteenth Golden Globe nomination. He has won three.

Since graduating from CMU, Danson has remained connected to the School of Drama, visiting often to connect with current students and engage with the university. In 2018, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts Degree.
